Supporting your clients beyond their financial needs – Insights from LV=

The government’s recent spring budget announcement was met with disappointment from some organisations, as there was a lack of support included for the health and social care system.

Around 7.21 million people in England are awaiting treatment[1] as the NHS continues to encounter significant backlogs triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Wealth and Wellbeing research[2] reflected anxieties about the NHS backlog as nearly one in five (19%) worry they won’t be able to get the medical treatment they need. This is up from 14% a year earlier, and equates to 10m UK adults. And, these concerns about getting medical treatment are higher for retirees than those who are working (31% vs. 14%).

With the rising cost of living taking its toll on finances and the demand for care on rise, an increasing number of retirees may become vulnerable in the future.

Whilst the NHS continues to face challenges, adult social care services remain under pressure as according to Age UK, 12% of people aged 50+ in England (2.6 million) have an unmet need for care.[3] And, the government’s recent decision to hold back promised social care funding to alleviate staff shortages may have a further detrimental impact.[4]

Our ageing population is not getting the care and support they need, resulting in loved ones having to step in to help and in some cases quitting their jobs to provide hands on care.
